Appraisals
Ontario
Provincial
Sales Tax – Purchasing a vehicle privately in
Ontario
requires
you to pay 8% Ontario sales tax on the “Red Book” value, or the
purchase price, which ever is higher. A PST appraisal reflects
the true value of the vehicle in its present condition. This value may
vary greatly from the minimum "Red Book" value due to body damage,
mileage, mechanical condition, or other relevant factors. Tax is then
paid on the "Appraised Value", not the
higher "Red Book" value.
